This course will focus on the role of social factors in the transmission and diffusion of sound change.
The class will cover a large amount of previous research on the topic. Students in the class will work together with the instructor to conduct a research project investigating a relevant question of interest.
Successful completion of both LING 410 Articulatory Phonetics and LING 640S Introduction to Sociolinguistics are required to enroll in this class.
LING 611 Acoustic Phonetics is recommended but not required.
